Well before Coupon Code, Promo Code & Discounts

People have been trying to save money in one way or another ever since money was first used. Before coupon codes, discount codes, and promo codes, there were many creative ways that people found to save money. Bartering was one of the earliest forms of trade and it was often the mutually agreed upon exchange of goods and services that provided huge savings.

For those who lacked the means to barter, they would offer services in exchange for goods. Families would look to their neighbours to hire them to perform various tasks, such as fixing a fence or cleaning up a garden. By exchanging services, families were able to save on the cost of goods.

The idea of promoting goods and services to find buyers is almost as old as money itself. With the introduction of newspaper and other media, came the advertisement of goods and services in exchange for discounts. This was a great way for businesses to attract new customers and for consumers to get great deals for the limited budget.

To attract even more customers, businesses came up with ingenious ways to entice people to purchase from them. Companies would use the lure of free gifts, samples, and bonus products. This was a great way to get people in the door and get them to take a look at what they had to offer. It also encouraged customers to purchase again to receive the same bonus.

The idea of offering coupons and vouchers was also used widely. This allowed consumers to receive reduced prices on the select merchandise when they presented a coupon to the merchant. Coupons could be earned through spending with the business or other activities, while vouchers were earned through customer loyalty programs.

The idea of deals and sales was also extremely popular during this time. Businesses would offer deep discounts on products and services. These sales would generally last for a period of time and usually resulted in a shopping frenzy. Businesses would gain both new and returning customers, and increase their bottom line.

Businesses were also able to offer discounts for groups and families. This allowed them to target those who had larger families, or those who were part of special interest groups. People who were part of a particular religion or profession would often be given special coupon codes which could be used to get great discounts on a large selection of items.

Time Sensitive Discounts

Time-sensitive discounts are a great way to urge people to make spontaneous purchases. This could be a “limited-time offer” that would prompt people to buy right away, or a “make-it-now offer” that would encourage customers to buy within a certain time period. These time-sensitive discounts are still used to great effect today, and have been so popular since their introduction.

International Discounts

The idea of international discounts is another great way to draw in customers. They work by offering discounts to customers from other countries, or those who are part of certain international organizations. People who would normally not be able to purchase items or services can do so by using a designated coupon code.

Online Discounts

Online discounts are very popular since most businesses now offer their products or services solely through the internet. Online coupons allow customers to receive discounts from their purchase from the comfort of their own home. As a result, businesses are not just attracting the customers in their local area, but also customers from around the world.

Specialty Discounts

Specialty discounts are a great way to target certain customers who may have specific needs. For example, businesses may offer discounts to senior citizens, military personnel, or members of certain clubs. The discounts provided may be small, but they can have a huge impact on a customer’s pocketbook.
